Applying for a Police Certificate

Notice : Starting from Apr.1.2026,Office hours will be changed. 

Monday – Friday

9:00 am – 11:30 am , 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
(We are closed on Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and December 28 through January 3) 


Please read the following before starting your application

Only individuals who are required to submit a Police Certificate by a foreign public authority, such as a foreign embassy or an immigration bureau, are eligible to apply. Applications from others cannot be accepted.

You may apply at the Nagano Prefectural Police Headquarters if you are:

  • A registered resident of Nagano Prefecture 
  • Not a registered resident of Japan, but your last registered residence was in Nagano Prefecture

If you are not a registered resident of Nagano Prefecture, or your last registered residence was not in Nagano Prefecture, please contact your local police headquarters.

Please note:

  • You must apply in person.
  • We do not accept applications by proxy, as we will need to take applicants’ fingerprints.

Applying from overseas:

You may apply from overseas through your nearest Japanese embassy or consulate. Please contact your

  • Japanese embassy or consulate for more details.
  • If you are applying from overseas, you may not submit the same application again in Japan.
