Accelarating at the exit of a curve
1 Example
When you are driving on a snow-covered road, you suddenly accelerate, and the rear end of the vehicle slips. You try to straighten the wheels but the vehicle can not return to the normal position.
2 What did you do wrong?
- You accelerated whilst coming out of the curve.
- The rear end of the car slipped because you accelerated.
- You were relying too heavily on your steering and so the car was unbalanced.
3 How to avoid accidents
- Be sure to slow down sufficiently before a curve.
- Never steer, brake or accelerate suddenly.
- If the rear end of the car is slipping, or side-slipping, ease up on the accelerator immediately.
- Do not accelerate when you exit the curve, when you do accelerate, do so gradually.
- Be aware that the back of a vehicle may be shaken or slip on snowy, frozen and rough roads.
